DISCUSSION TOPIC COMMENTARIES
Recommended Length: 2 pages apiece (due Wednesday, April 11 with the second-half portfolio)
Pick two Discussion Topics from any part of the semester and offer well-integrated reviews that combine a basic overview with your own analysis. How would you outline the history involved? Is there a dominant theme that can be used to connect the readings? Are there issues that you would highlight? You are given considerable leeway in regards both to approach and to focus for the commentaries. For example, you may choose to discuss one particular theme or major sub-topic. Try to find some point of entry of interest to you that demonstrates you have engaged with different materials from the Discussion Topic in question. It is fine to include some summary, but the emphasis should be on your interpretations.
Students are encouraged to complete up to three extra Discussion Topic commentaries. The bonus essays will be graded and add up to 3% apiece to your Second-Half Portfolio Grade.
Please choose from the following options for your Discussion Topic commentaries:
Antigone
Saint And The Hanged Man
Old Bailey
Cesare Beccaria
Outlaw As Folk Hero
Organized Crime In Comparative Perspective
The Mounties: Recent History And Contemporary Issues
