FIRST-HALF PORTFOLIO: HISTORICAL REACTIONS TO CRIME AND DEVIANCE


The HIS 260 first-half portfolio (36% of overall course grade) should include the following components:


a) Angelique And The Burning Of Montreal

Recommended Length: approximately 4-5 pages

An interpretive mini-essay that uses the Torture and the Truth Canadian Mysteries web-site as its main source.

Responsibilities:

i)  Come to class on February 1 ready to discuss your research.  Please bring in one specific document that you consider to be of particular interest.

ii)  Include your written paper in the first-half portfolio (due Wednesday, February 29).


b) Trials Of History Assignment

Recommended Length: approximately 5 pages

An analytical research paper that describes one historic trial; assesses its significance; and places it within historical context.

Responsibilities:

i)  Come to class on February 15 ready to offer a well-structured class presentation that offers a five-to-ten-minute summary and analysis of your trial.

ii)  Include your written paper in the first-half portfolio (due Wednesday, February 29).
