POMPEII: USEFUL LINKS
Pompeii:
A detailed introduction to the site is offered by

9 am - 7 pm. There are two main entrances to Pompeii: Porta Marina,
right by the Pompeii-Scavi Sation and Piazza Anfitreato on the other side
of the site in modern Pompeii. The Villa dei Misteri is located .5
kilometers from the station, near the Porto Ercolano exit from the site.
Villa Dei Misteri:
According to Amadeo Maiuri, the fresco of the Villa dei Misteri represents
the rite of initiation of a bride to the Dionysiac mysteries, whose cult
was widespread in Campania. The first eight scenes describe the
rites of the reception of the bride into the Dionysian company, while the
last two evoke the pre-nuptial preparations. According to some
interpretations, the cycle represents the initiation of a woman to the
cult of Dionysus-Zagreus, or the Orphic mystery.
Garden Of The Fugitives:
In 1961, a group of 13 victims of the eruption was discovered in one of
the many zones in Region 1 planted with vines, olive trees and orchards.
They had been suffocated by volcanic gases and ash as they tried to
escape.
Casa Degli Amorini Dorati:
To one side is the peristyle, raised at one end, and in the left-hand
corner is a sacellum dedicated to three Egyptian deities:
Harpocrates, Isis and Serapis, shown with the god Anubis.
