ROME AND POMPEII 2025: IMPORTANT INFORMATION


Omnia Card 72 Hours:  This card offers pre-paid, fast-track access to the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's, the Mamertine Prison, the Colosseum, the Forum, and the Palatine Hill, as well as discounts to the same museums as the Roma Pass (plus one free entry), free transport around the city, plus a trip on the Roma Cristiana bus tour of the city.  This is quite an expensive card.  For the Vatican Museums, you can jump the queue by booking online.

Omnia Smart Card:  99 Euros.

Omnia Card 24 Hours:  69 Euros.

Vatican Museums Tickets:  ***Vatican Museums are open Friday evenings, which are a less busy option.

Roma Pass:  This covers most places but the Vatican Museums and is available from all museums and tourist information kiosks.  It is valid for two to three days and offers both free admission to two of approximately 45 museums or sights and reduced entry to others.  It also allows you to avoid queues at big sites, such as the Colosseum, and provides free travel on buses, trams, and the metro.

Rome City Pass And Rome Tourist Cards:

Arrival And Departure from Ostia, Antica:  By train -- Take the metro to Piramide station (line B), then go up the escalator, turn left and go down the steps to the Roma-Lido station, where you can take a train to Ostia Antica.  You can do the whole journey with a single metro ticket.  The site is a 5 minute walk from the station.

Trenitalia:  The official website of the national Italian train system.

Campania Artecard:  You can cut the price of sightseeing around Naples by investing in the Campania Artecard, which gives free travel in Naples, on buses to Pozzuoli and Caserta, and one the Circumvesuviana, Circumflegrea and Cumana lines, plus free entry to several key sights, including Pompeii, the Museo Nazionale Archeologico and the Caserta Reale, as well as large discounts and queue priorities on others.  You book via the website, selecting the number of days and the sites you want to include, and choosing whether you want to include public transport or not.

My Pompeii:  This card includes entry to Pompeii, Oplontis, Boscoreale and Stabiae, but also runs a shuttle-bus service between the sites several times daily (except tuesday), leaving from Piazza Esedra at Pompeii.  The card costs 35 Euros, puls a 1.5 Euro booking fee, and is valiid for one year.

The Italy country code is 39.  To make an international call, dial the international access code (in Italy it's 00), then the destination's country code.

In Rome, one can use the Vatican postal system.  There are post offices and boxes in Piazza San Pietro and the Vatican Museums.
